Chapter DuesIn order to simplify the bookkeeping we are asking that members pay their dues on the first of each year.If everyone would do this it would greatly help the chapter keep better records. It would also help the members to know exactly when their dues are to be paid. We are just trying to simplify this process for everyone. If you are like me you are never quite sure if you are paid up or not. If you are lifetime members we are asking for a donation of $10 per year to help with our growing costs. Those who are not lifetime members, the dues are $20 per year. Dues can be mailed to: Harold Brent 5118 Pine Arbor Dr. Houston, Texas 77066 Also dues can be paid at the first meeting of the year. Thanks for your cooperation with this, as it will be a big help. Chapter KudosThis newsletter's chapter kudos goes to everyone's favorite chapter member Augustin Soto and his lovely wife Mary. Soto's first chapter meeting that he attended was in Houston at Clear Lake Park in October of 1993. He has not missed a chapter meeting since. No matter where it is, he and Mary will travel the long distances to attend. Living in Harlingen, Texas often times means many hours on the road are needed to reach the destination where the chapter meeting is being held. No matter where, be it Fort Worth, Waco, or Houston, you can expect to see Augustin and Mary at the meeting. Augustin has had surgeries to both knees, twice and at the last meeting in San Antonio Mary's arm was in a sling due to a broken shoulder. These two troopers let nothing stand in their way to attend. All I can say is WOW. What dedication they have shown to the chapter. Augustin first heard about the Texas chapter at a meeting in a VA facility from a fellow skysoldier way back in 1993. He and Mary decided to attend the meeting in Houston and it was so therapeutic for him that he kept coming to every meeting since. >He related to me that coming to the chapter meetings helped him with his PTSD problems. After attending the chapter meeting he would go home and the counselor and his family would notice a change in him. Well, I can't say much about that except that it is therapeutic for us to have him and Mary with us at the chapter meetings. They are both loved and respected for their support and helping in any way they can to make our chapter a success. Augustin is the valley's area representative and keeps us informed on happenings in the valley. His knowledge of the area VA facilities and lack thereof is helping to bring about a much needed change to those veterans and their families in the valley. There are numerous veterans who now have to travel to San Antonio for their medical care and a VA hospital for the veterans in the valley is something that should have happened a long time ago.So to Augustin and Mary, chapter kudos to you both for your support and dedication. Keep showing us how it is done and looking forward to seeing you in Waco. |
